Attention Ladies! - On Saturday, June 10th, our chapter will be holding a Women’s Fly Fishing Clinic. This FREE event will teach you all of the basics you’ll need to get started in fly fishing. The event will take place from 10-2 (rain or shine) and lunch will be served. We’ll be at the picnic area at Laughman’s Sawmill, a beautiful little spot right on the banks of Codorus Creek (click on the link on your right for directions). A fishing license and fishing tackle is not required. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot. Download a flyer here with more information. We’re really looking forward to a fun day, and we hope you’ll join us!
Sawmill habitat improvment - Construction on our stream restoration project on the Codorus in the section adjacent to Laughman’s sawmill is substantially complete. This project was designed to stabilize the streambank, remove some obsolete man-made structures, enhance trout habitat and help manage high water levels. The trout re-populated the section quickly once construction was complete. This effort is also the Eagle Scout project for chapter member Ethan Daviau, and we’re very grateful for all of his hard work!
Codorus TU hats now available! - Show your support for our chapter with a great new Codorus TU ballcap. These great looking new caps feature our chapter logo on the front, and the words “Clean Water - Wild Trout” on the back. They’re available in either dark green or khaki and the cost is $20.00. Pick one up at a meeting or e-mail us if you’re interested in ordering one.
We would like to hear from you! Use our handy feedback form for your questions, ideas or comments. We also hope you’ll stop by a monthly meeting sometime to see what we’re all about. Non-members are welcome as well. The meetings are casual and always generate plenty of lively discussion. Our other activities are fun, rewarding and a great way to give something back the creek and it’s trout.
Important! - As you visit the creek this season, please make sure your vehicle is not blocking access to a farm field. It is very troubling to landowners when they can’t get their tractors and equipment into their fields. If you see anyone else’s vehicle blocking a field, you may want to (politely) suggest that they move. Our access to the stream depends on this kind of courtesy - please be mindful of where you park.
Didymo! This destructive species of algae is right on our doorstep in Maryland’s Gunpowder River and Big Hunting Creek. Unfortunately it can easily be spread by anglers! We have installed 4 wader wash stations on the Codorus for use by visitors as a last line of defense. They are located near parking areas from the Brown Road bridge up to the sawmill. Other stations will be added soon. Learn more about dymosphenia geminate (also known as ‘rock snot’) and the preventive measures you must take from this is informative fact sheet (.pdf format). You can also find lots of information by simply typing ‘didymo’ into your favorite search engine
A word on stream etiquette! As you enjoy the Codorus this season, please be aware of where others are fishing and which direction they’re moving in. Plan your entry accordingly and give your fellow anglers a polite distance to fish.
Please respect the rights of landowners when you visit the stream - stay out of plowed fields - remain in the stream corridor, and obey no trespassing signs. When you park, make sure you're not blocking access to fields. Most of all, just use common sense and courtesy - be a thoughtful and appreciative guest.
Special Regulations - The Codorus Creek is managed under the PF&BC's Trophy Trout Program. Please review the signs posted along the stream or the booklet that came with your license for a list of the regulations, or click here
