Public Meeting - Sampling and Preserving Macroinvertebrates plus an Overview of the New Streamgage

This one is going to be fun! We are combining an early season macroinvertebrate sampling from the creek, when the bugs should be plentiful, along with a demonstration on how to preserve them in individual glass tubes. Some of the attendees may even leave with a presevered sample!

Britton Reed of Spookintrout has been collecting and preserving macroinvertebrates for years and will share his knowledge and the do's and dont's of preservation. Preserved specimens can be used for education and reference for tying flies which Britton uses for his meticulously tied flies.

This will be our first time at the creek since installation of the streamgage so we'll offer a quick overview of what it is, what it records, and the benefit we hope it provides.

Bring a chair, family, a friend to this great event Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the old Laughman’s Sawmill pavillion. All are welcomed!

Fly Tying Tuesday - March 7 at Sign of the Horse Brewery

Bring your vise or just your curiosity for starting to tie flies to Sign of the Horse Brewery in Hanover on TUESDAY, March 7. In fact, we’ll even have a few extra vises on hand. We’re starting to make this a tradition to replace one of our usual Wednesday chapter meetings each spring with a Tuesday evening at this fine local brewery.

This year, we’re taking a more relaxed approach but we will feature one Iron Fly style competition to watch or take part in. Otherwise, we’ll be hanging out, tying up a good time, and introducing anyone who wants to learn to this fun and addictive facet of fly fishing. Mark your calendars and plan to join us!

We will be breaking out the seine net and collecting bugs that live in the Codorus during our upcoming Aug. 10 chapter meeting.

This is a great opportunity to bring your kids and we’ll have a great setup to show them – and you – all the little trout snack-sized bugs that live their lives under the water.

Codorus TU returns to the Sawmill for our monthly meetings starting this Wednesday

May is upon us and it’s time for our most plentiful mayfly hatch on Codorus – the Sulphur.

Join us streamside at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, as several of our regulars show you their favorite Sulphur mayfly patterns to use on our stream, from bottom-dredging nymphs to dry flies.

And it’s not always the classic dry fly that works best during a hatch, so we'll also have a tight-line demo right on the stream.

Please note that this is a TUESDAY date - not our usual Wednesday and note the new, one-time location as well.

This will be an open fly tying night - bring your tying stuff if you want to, or just watch and learn while enjoying a cold one. To make it even more interesting, we have some “Iron Fly” competitions planned during the evening, when participants will be challenged to create flies from limited materials and time. (think TV’s Iron Chef competitions, adapted to fly tying). Should be a fun evening!

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO THIS MEETING. We’ve moved this meeting online out of concern for the health of our members. We hope to resume in-person meetings as soon as possible.

Members: Check your February newsletter for a link to the meeting. If you don’t have the link and wish to attend, please drop us an e-mail and we’ll see that you get one.

This month’s meeting will feature a ‘Meet the staff’ session where you can present your questions to Codorus TU’s leadership. Got a fishing question? Wanna know what flies we like? Need to know where you can and can’t park on the Codorus? Curious about our chapter’s work? This is your chance to ask - bring your questions and pick our brains a little. Should be an informative session!

Monthly Chapter Meeting - CANCELLED

Our regular monthly meeting for January has been cancelled. Our decision was based on the recent local spike in COVID-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant. With an abundance of caution for the safety of our members, our officers and board unanimously voted that an in-person event wasn't advisable at this time.

We hope to resume our regular schedule of events as soon as possible. Please watch our website and social media for further updates.

Tried and true or experimental patterns are welcomed all the same.  We hope to see you there!

Feature Presentation - The New Zealand Strike Indicator System: delicate presentations for low, clear water and finicky trout - presented by Chapter officers Tim Throne and Brent Burkey.

We’ve certanly had our share of low, clear water in our area over the past couple of seasons. Presenting subsurface flies, getting a proper drift and detecting subtle strikes without spooking trout can be a real challenge under those tough conditions. Join us at our November meeting to learn a great technique for doing just that. Tim and Brent are both seasoned, experienced anglers and we’re sure you’ll gain some valuable insight from this timely discussion.
